Face a window, remove glasses and keep a neutral face. The guide tells you when you are at the right distance from the camera. About the El Salvador passport photo maker tool

Salvadoran passport applications follow rules set by the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (DGME), and photo requirements depend on the kind of passport and where you apply. For ordinary passports the photo is reported to be often taken when you apply, so ask your office or consulate whether to bring one. When a printed photo is asked for, El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists a recent colour photo, facing the camera, on a white background, preferably without glasses, in ID size or 2 × 2 inches. Those rules are published for diplomatic passports, so we mark them as guidelines here.

This tool makes the 2 × 2 inch version. It finds your face, crops the photo square with your head at the usual size for 2 × 2 inch photos, can replace an off-white wall with plain white, and checks the result for sharpness, lighting, tilt and a plain background. You get a 600 × 600 px JPEG at 300 DPI, which prints at exactly 2 × 2 inches, and a 4 × 6 inch print sheet with several copies to cut out.

For a good photo, stand in front of a plain light wall facing a window, keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed and both eyes open, keep your ears and face clear of hair, and take off glasses. Ask someone to take the picture at eye level from about a metre away. If your office or consulate asks for another size, make the photo here and resize it with our Resize Image tool. Everything happens on your device; your photo is never uploaded.

    Frequently asked questions

What size is an El Salvador passport photo?

2 × 2 in (51 × 51 mm), which is 600×600 pixels at 300 DPI. We could not confirm an official head size; this tool uses 1–1⅜ in (25–35 mm), top of hair to chin (50%–69% of the height). Background: white.

Where do these Salvadoran passport photo rules come from?

From El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whose passport requirements ask for a recent colour photo, facing the camera, on a white background, preferably without glasses, in ID size or 2 × 2 inches. That page is about diplomatic passports, so the rules are marked as guidelines here: we could not find a separate official photo specification for ordinary passports.

Do I need a photo for an ordinary passport?

Possibly not. Guides and news reports say that for ordinary passports the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería often takes the photo when you apply, and that some renewals reuse the image on your DUI or previous passport; we could not confirm this on an official page. Ask your office or consulate before printing photos.

Can I use this photo for other Salvadoran forms?

Yes, if they ask for a 2 × 2 inch photo on a white background. If a form asks for another size, resize the result with our Resize Image tool.

Can I wear glasses in an El Salvador passport photo?

    Preferably without glasses.
