Take the photo

Starting the camera…

Stand about 1 to 1.5 m (3 to 5 ft) in front of a plain light wall, so no shadow falls on it, with the camera about 1 to 1.5 m (3 to 5 ft) from you. Face a window, remove glasses and keep a neutral face. The guide tells you when you are at the right distance from the camera. The camera image is analyzed on your device and is never recorded or uploaded.

About the UAE visa photo maker tool

UAE visa and residency applications through ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security) or GDRFA Dubai ask for a recent colour photo, and photos are one of the most common reasons an application is returned. We could not find the photo size on an official UAE government page, and guides disagree: most give 43 × 55 mm, some 35 × 45 mm. This page makes the 43 × 55 mm version and marks every number as a guideline; when you upload, the service shows the size it accepts, and that is the one to follow.

What all guides agree on is simpler: a photo taken in the last six months, in colour, on a plain white background with no shadows on your face or behind you, a neutral expression with your mouth closed, both eyes open and looking straight at the camera, and no filters or retouching. Glasses are best removed. This tool finds your face, crops it so your head fills about three quarters of the height, can replace an off-white wall with plain white, and checks sharpness, lighting, tilt and the background.

To take the photo, stand in front of a plain light wall facing a window, with someone photographing you at eye level from about a metre away. You get a 508 × 650 px JPEG at 300 DPI, which prints at 43 × 55 mm, and a 4 × 6 inch print sheet if you need prints. If your form asks for another size, resize the result with our Resize Image tool. Everything runs on your device; nothing is uploaded.

    Frequently asked questions

What size is a UAE visa photo?

43 × 55 mm, which is 508×650 pixels at 300 DPI. We could not confirm an official head size; this tool uses 38–44 mm, crown (top of head) to chin (69%–80% of the height). Background: white, plain, with no shadows.

Is 43 × 55 mm the official UAE visa photo size?

We could not confirm it on an official UAE government page. 43 × 55 mm is the size most guides give for UAE visa photos, but others give 35 × 45 mm, and one notes that Dubai’s visa service doesn’t publish a single size. So every number on this page is marked as a guideline. The ICP or GDRFA service you apply through shows the size it needs when you upload, and that decides.

What do all the sources agree on?

A recent colour photo (taken in the last six months) on a plain white background, with no shadows on your face or behind you, a neutral expression, eyes open and looking at the camera, and no filters or retouching. The tool checks the background, lighting, sharpness and head position for you.

My form asks for a different size. What now?

Use the size the form asks for: make the photo here, then change its dimensions with our Resize Image tool, or crop it with the Crop Image tool. Keep the face large and centred, as in this photo.

Can I wear glasses in a UAE visa photo?

    Best removed.
