About the Nepal passport photo maker tool
Nepali passport applications made through an embassy usually need printed photos, and the Embassy of Nepal in Canberra spells out what it accepts: two high-resolution, borderless photos of 35 by 45 mm on a white background, with your face covering only about 70% of the photo. One rule catches many people out: photos with a tika on the forehead are not accepted, so remove it before the photo is taken.
This tool takes care of the size and framing. It finds your face, crops the photo to 35 × 45 mm with your head filling about 70% of the height, can replace a light-grey or patterned wall with plain white, and checks the result for sharpness, lighting, tilt and a plain background. You then get a 413 × 531 px JPEG at 300 DPI, which prints at exactly 35 × 45 mm, and a 4 × 6 inch print sheet with several copies to cut out.
For the best photo, stand about a metre in front of a plain light wall, face a window so the light is soft and even, and have someone take the picture at eye level. Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed, both eyes open, and hair away from your face; take off glasses to avoid glare. Print at 100% size, not “fit to page”, so the photos come out exactly 35 × 45 mm. Everything happens on your device; your photo is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a Nepal passport photo?
35 × 45 mm, which is 413×531 pixels at 300 DPI. We could not confirm an official head size; this tool uses 30–34 mm, crown (top of head) to chin (67%–76% of the height). Background: white, borderless.
Where do these Nepali passport photo rules come from?
From the required documents published by the Embassy of Nepal in Canberra: 35 mm × 45 mm photos with only 70% face coverage, high resolution, borderless, two pieces, on a white background, and no tika on the forehead (photos with a tika are not accepted). The embassy doesn’t give a separate head size or an age limit, so the tool uses common values for those and marks them as guidelines.
Can I wear a tika in the photo?
No. The embassy says photos with a tika on the forehead will not be accepted. Remove it before the photo is taken; the tool can’t remove it for you.
Do other embassies ask for the same photo?
The 35 × 45 mm size on a white background is what Nepali missions commonly ask for, but the number of prints and small details can differ. Check the page of the embassy or consulate you apply through.
Can I wear glasses in a Nepal passport photo?
Not mentioned; best removed.
